February 28th, 2019
By Sarah Hunter

Houston continues to gain recognition from national news outlets like CNN, who recently published their reasons why people should make the city one of their top travel destinations in 2019. The usual suspects such as the food scene, diversity, and world-class museums all made the list, but the article also offered a fresh take on why these things make Houston so special (gas station tacos, anyone?).

They’re not the only ones to take notice of Houston’s growing reputation as a world-class city. See for yourself what people are saying about the Bayou City:

“There’s something about Houston that attracts so many people,” he said. “It takes you in.”

The New York Times recently highlighted Houston as part of its series "The 52 Places Traveler".

“With over 90 languages spoken, Houston is the most ethnically diverse city in the country. That means our food & drink scene, local music & arts, and street culture are cool as hell.”

Thrillist offers its own take on why the city should be on everyone’s travel bucket list.

Follow the golden brick road because it leads to creative clusters, including Downtown, River Oaks, West University, the Museum District, and Upper Kirby and Memorial.”

Forbes shows the city some love by showing that there’s never been a better time to visit Houston and check out some of its most vibrant districts.

“Maybe it's that sense of defiance that ultimately defines Houston's cool—the sense that a city where cool isn't the primary commodity can afford to lie back and let the world come to it, whenever the world catches on. As Matthew Odam's passenger put it, before closing the car door and taking off toward the Menil's lawn and into legend: “Houston is cool because Houston doesn't (care) about being cool.”

“Houston has history, but also the convenience and exciting atmosphere of a bustling city. It’s more than just a tourist destination, it’s an epicenter for engineering, technology, cancer treatment, and art.”

Culture Trip article points out that we have more than just great food and an endless amount of things to do: we’re also deeply entrenched in the history of human space exploration and a growing hub of tech talent and innovation.
